"Always look on the bright side of life."
-- Monty Python
The Bright Side is a web site administered by Psyche Minded, Inc., non-profit charitable organization* created with the following goals:
- Provide an online community where people in need can find immediate solace when they feel life is overwhelming.
- Provide inspiration, tools and information for people to help them help themselves.
- Show people there is a bright side of life in every situation, it’s just a matter of knowing how to find it.
- Educate the general public about depression and other mental disorders, and by doing so creating a more tolerant and accepting world.
Why an online community? In today’s society, there is a negative stigma attached to anyone who is struggling with emotional and mental issues. The stigma is even greater when dealing with mental disorders. Much of this stigma stems from an intolerant society, fueled by ignorance and avoidance of the subject of mental health. This stigma contributes to why, relatively speaking, so few people seek out help when it comes to mental or emotional distress. The Internet offers a valuable tool to help circumvent this stigma – anonymity.
It is our belief that the ability to get at least an initial degree of emotional support through a web site will inspire at least some people to take further steps towards self help. It is also our belief that by educating the population about issues of mental and emotional health, society will slowly become more accepting and tolerant of people with emotional or mental difficulties, eventually eliminating the stigma attached to it.*Psyche Minded, Inc. is currently in the process of becoming a legally recognized charitable non-profit corporation (501(c) 3 status).
