Born with Cerebral Palsy and told he was unemployable, the "unstoppable" Bill Porter refused to bow to his disease and was determined to support himself as a door-to-door salesman.

A Small Piece of Carpet
Have you ever noticed how the way you feel about yourself sometimes depends on whether or not you get confirmation of your value from others?

Ah, Sweet Memories – Part One
As I walk around my neighborhood enjoying the smells of autumn, combined with the reds... I think once more of all the autumns that have come and gone. How does my memory hold on to this time of year?

Can we say hello without saying goodbye?
In understanding our deep rooted fears and insecurities, by accepting and observing them as they are, the very awareness transforms and heals.

Essential Wisdom
I had the privilege of meeting an eight-year-old hero named Sean. It turns out that Sean has had more trial and anguish sent his way, than most who have lived eight times his eight. Our relationship began when I was heading home on the last plane of the day and he and his father and I shared the last row.   Sean had a dear personality, and as his father slept, Sean tried to engage me in some of his ‘how many pennies are in this hand' games – activities that I am usually highly resistant to play at that time of night. But it was hard to resist Sean's self-confidence, his positive attitude and his creative tenacity. For a little guy, he was amazing and we became fast friends.

Essential Wisdom - Driving Together
This is a story of a man and a woman who lived side by side and each day the two would drive to work in the man's car. It is a story that tells of the importance of setting personal boundaries. What intrigued me is the creative way the man handled his problem…particularly since the woman was his neighbor.

Essential Wisdom - Faith
This is a story of a good man who lost faith in himself, his world and his reason for being. For a time, as a young man, life, by the world's standards had been very good to him, and he had acquired all that life offered in money, possessions and love. It is easy to have faith in the good times. But life has a way of bringing us up short and perhaps those who are chosen for greatness are pulled up sharper and shorter than the rest. There was a serious car accident and the man was hurt very badly. As he lay on his back for three weeks with nothing to do but think…he found he did not like what he was thinking. “What price have I paid to get where I am today? A job where I sell my soul each day, where my values and integrity are compromised? What parts of myself have I sold out to keep my relationship and my hope for children in play? Who am I? Where am I going? Why am I here'?

Healing
A positive belief system is essential to well being.

Is kindness the antidote to cruelty?
The only way to heal our pain is by love. With a greater and greater love for ourselves and each other. In loving with an intensity that overlooks all differences, our pain is healed and transformed.
