The Enchanted Self Visits New Orleans updated August 28, 2008
Last week the American Psychological Association had its annual meetings in New Orleans. I went there with trepidation. Since Katrina happened the end of last summer, I have had a heaviness in my heart about New Orleans. What would I find? How would I feel being in a city that had suffered a disaster? What insights and/or reactions would I come away with?

Katrina, A Pain in My Heart That Won't Easily Go Away!
Katrina has been cruel and with randomness has hurt the innocent. We go to hospitals and nursing homes for healing, not to drown! We keep
pets because we love them, not to abandon them, frightened, in empty houses with water rising around them. We go to convention centers for interesting meetings, not to be crying out in thirst, unheard!
Tools for Putting Enchantment into Your Life
When I began to call the special part of ourselves that can be found somewhere between the mind, body, spirit and heart THE ENCHANTED SELF®, many, particularly women, expressed their appreciation over and over again. "Thank you for giving a name to this special part of me," and "This is the part of me that I always devalued and ignored because I thought I wasn't entitled to it. Now that you've identified it, I feel justified in developing this part of myself!"
Excerpt from the book THE ENCHANTED SELF, A Positive Therapy
Dear Readers, It is timely to go back in time and share with you the beginnings of THE ENCHANTED SELF. THE ENCHANTED SELF was birthed as all revolutionary theories are, suddenly in an 'Aha' moment. For me, after a combination of elements came together in what was literally an explosion in my mind, it happened. The elements were my private practice, my own life, my own therapies, and the women I interviewed not in my practice. All ignited into a major 'Aha' insight that changed my practice of psyhotherapy, changed my attitudes and turned me into a psychologist with a mission.
My mission is to help others, including therapists, clients and you, the reader, find the source of your personal positive energies, bring them forward, release them again and consequently learn to generate more and more positive states of mind and being everyday. Join me now in reading an excerpt from my first book, THE ENCHANTED SELF, A Positive Therapy. This book is available in Barnes and Nobles, on Amazon and of course via my website. Let me know your feedback. All my best, Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein, www.enchantedself.com
The Disenchanted Forest, The Enchanted Self
A Tale of Female Development in a Strange Land
The women had helped me discover and give life to THE ENCHANTED SELF. I realized quickly that each of us has one! For some of us, our enchanted selves are clear and central to our beings. For others our enchanted selves are vague and barely breathing. But everyone has one! It is our most special part of ourselves that is where joy, wisdom and meaning emanate from. It is a gift that we carry. It is a gift we share. It provides the light when everything is dark and it takes us again and again away from disenchantment and despair!
Being True To Our Precious Selves
The third and final part of Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein's passover series
Moving Toward The Promised Land
In the last month we began to talk about freedom. Personal freedom is essential for one to feel comfortable as an Enchanted Self-someone able to access positive states of meaning again and again, while living a life of meaning and purpose.
Last time I used the Exodus from Egypt as a metahporical example of some of the struggles that we all face in obtaining personal freedom. Today, let's look at the notion that the Hebrews kept their own language
What's In A Name? Everything
Many people around the world celebrate Passover even if they're not Jewish . Many others enjoy listening to the story. I think this is because the story of Passover is so universal. It's a story of moving from slavery toward freedom. We all long to fulfill our inner most aspirations, to feel that we have achieved a spiritual rendezvous with freedom. Actually, that is what THE ENCHANTED SELF is all about.
