Reverse Aging by Changing Your Mind
How is it possible to look and feel younger just by changing your mind? I'm Dr. Michael Brickey, President of The Ageless Lifestyles Institute. When I turned 50 I became consumed with discovering why some people look and much feel younger than their calendar age. You know the kind of people who exude vitality and resiliently shed stress? And centenarians who write books, dance, sculpt, play sports, teach, run for Congress, and even father children? They must be doing something different. Sure enough they do.

To give a few examples: Tom Spears plays three rounds of golf a week, usually shooting below 90. African-American sisters, Sadie and Bessie Delany wrote their first book, a best seller and Tony winning Broadway play, when they were in their hundreds. Can't teach an old dog new tricks? George Dawson dropped out of school in the eight grade. He got tired of signing his name with an X and learned to read a write at age 98. He co-wrote his autobiography at 102.

So what are their secrets? When someone turns 100, reporters often ask their secret. Usually, they don't know. They may guess something like, "Broccoli, broccoli and red wine. That's my secret." As a group, however, their secrets are apparent. It's not magic pills, magic diets, or extreme exercise regimes. Could it be genetics? Studies comparing identical and fraternal twins found that only 30% of longevity is genetic. That means that 70% is mental and lifestyle. Adopt their beliefs and you too can look and feel younger and more vital well into your hundreds.

My Reverse Aging by Changing Your Mind columns are about the Attitudes, Beliefs and Coping Skills (ABCs) for living longer, healthier, and happier. When you know how, the paradigm shifts can be quick, effortless, and painless. Easy as ABC.

Aging With Grace
Make sure you are always using your mental muscles.

Your Weakest Link
Your longevity and health depend on you addressing your body’s weakest link.

In Praise Of Fat
Common sense seems to suggest that we should reach for those no fat foods as fat would make us fat. Our bodies need some fat, however, to build and maintain tissue, absorb fat soluble vitamins, produce hormones, etc.

Vitamins And Common Sense
As consumers we need to eat healthy foods and take a good multiple vitamin as an insurance policy against whatever our diet misses.

Motivation To Exercise
Most of us know we need to exercise but have difficulty getting motivated to do it. Journalism’s why questions can be help. Journalists ask who, what, when, where, why.

Updating Your Definition of Midlife
Ask yourself what you age you associate with midlife.

Evian Backwards
Remember the story of the emperor’s new clothes. A modern day version might have the merchants pitching bottled water.

Choose Your News
Just as jingles from commercials slip into our minds and memories even when we think we are tuning them out or they are inane, the news makes an impression on our minds as well.

The Alzheimer’s Cavalry
The Alzheimer’s cavalry is on the way. There is a good chance that within ten years we may have a vaccine to prevent Alzheimer’s disease.

The Secret To Living Long
Make sure that you always, always have a clear, strong sense of purpose.
